Every character in V will be unique: Nivetha Thomas

Nivetha Thomas talks to us on a video call over the weekend. The actress was last seen playing in Superstar Rajinikanth’s Darbar earlier this year, one of the biggest theatrical releases. She says that she is equally excited for V’s OTT release. “I just can’t wait for V to have its world premiere on Amazon in less than a week. To see the audience’s or a critic’s reaction at a preview theatre is something I have always looked forward to. The verdict will be out by 9 in the morning. However, an OTT release is big in its own way. By one in the night when people are one hour into the film, the reactions will be out in millions. That is everything. I have butterflies in my stomach” she says. Nivetha has experimented across roles and genres in many languages in the last couple of years. So, when V came to her, she says, “In fact, I was watching something on Amazon when Mohan sir (director Mohana Krishna Indraganti) called up. I thought he was calling to enquire about me. I didn’t presume it to be a work call. When I realised that, I was mentally on board for the film because I could not say ‘no’ to his films ever.”She also divulges about her character Apoorva that she plays in the film. “What intrigued me to do this film was how ‘weirdly interesting’ my character of Apoorva was penned for V. This is the craziest character I have ever played on screen. There is a certain sexiness and elegance to it. The script is a male-oriented one obviously because it’s about a cop-criminal face-off. When you watch the film, you will realise that each role has its prominence and will stand out. I was actually shooting for Darbar and V simultaneously and I dubbed for V three months after I completed my shoot for it. I was looking at myself on screen and it felt like I was dubbing for another another person. I haven’t seen the final cut yet and people in the team who have seen it had great things to tell me about the film,” she opens up.

Coming from a Malayali family, Nivetha says that she will be having a subdued Onam celebration this year. “Indha varusham paayasam mattum dhan (It will only be paayasam for Onam this year),” she says. “We have planned to have low-key celebration and haven’t invited anyone home. And there is no sadhya as well. We are planning to distribute food to people who are in need.” On a concluding note, she says that she has quite a few interesting projects coming her way. “I will start shooting for a couple of films I have already signed up and there are a couple of straight-to-OTT projects too I will be working on. I am happy that filmmakers are offering me good roles and they believe that I can deliver,” she concludes.
