Producer-director CV Kumar’s directorial Kottravai went on floors in the city earlier this week. This will be CV Kumar’s third film as a director after Maayavan and Gangs of Madras. While there have been reports that Kottravai is an epic film, director producer CV Kumar told DT Next, “It is a pattern fiction film, which means that the story will be a fictional thread from a real story. This genre hasn’t been explored in Tamil before.” The director-producer said that the shoot is taking place in full swing. “We are currently shooting for a couple of weeks in Karaikudi. We will later shift to Chennai and Perambalur,” he added. CV Kumar, who is the producer of blockbusters and critically-acclaimed films like Pizza, Soodhu Kavvum and Iraivi said that Kottravai is being made for a pure theatrical experience. “People have started watching crime thrillers and suspense movies on OTT platforms. We need a solid reason to bring the audience to theatres. Only such films could be the reason for them to visit theatres. I think it’s time for filmmakers to break the clichés and make films with spectacle.

Jointly produced by Thirukumaran Enterainments and Dr K Prabhu’s Mayil Films, Kottravai will have Rajesh Kanagasabai, Vela Ramamoorthy, Anupama Kumar, Gaurav Narayanan, and Pawan playing key roles. The film will have its music by Ghibran, cinematography by Prakash Rudra, and editing by Ignatious Aswin.
