Shanavas Naranipuzha, director of Sufiyum Sujatayum, went into cardiogenic shock while he was shooting his upcoming film in Palakkad’s Attapadi. He was admitted at the KG Hospital in Coimbatore on Saturday. He was declared brain dead on Wednesday morning and is currently on ventilator support.
Hospital source said, there has been no improvement in Shanavas's health since he was admitted on Saturday night at the Intensive Care Unit.
Though Shanavas made his first feature film 'Karie' on the topic of caste discrimination, he received more attention for making a triangular romance 'Sufiyum Sujatayum', which is the first Malayalam film that directly released on an OTT platform. It was released on Amazon Prime Video in July.
Shanavas, who hails from Naranippuzha in Malappuram had started as an editor before becoming a feature filmmaker.
