Movie tickets at ₹75 on Sept 16: MIA on National Cinema Day

CHENNAI: The Multiplex Association of India (MIA) announced that on National Cinema Day (September 16), cinemas across the country have joined hands to offer movie tickets for just ₹75. It will be as a 'thank you' gesture for moviegoers who contributed to the successful re-opening of cinemas post-Covid lockdowns and to celebrate the day.

The tweet read, "Cinemas come together to celebrate ‘National Cinema Day’ on 16th Sep, to offer movies for just Rs.75. National Cinema Day will be held at more than 4000 participating screens and will include cinema screens of PVR, INOX, CINEPOLIS, CARNIVAL, MIRAJ, CITYPRIDE, ASIAN, MUKTA A2, MOVIE TIME, WAVE, M2K, DELITE, and many others. #NationalCinemaDay2022 #16thSep" (sic)

In a subsequent tweet, a press release was shared by MIA that read, "National Cinema Day will bring together audiences of all ages to enjoy a day at the movies. National Cinema Day celebrates the successful reopening of cinemas and is a 'thank you' to the moviegoers who made this happen. National Cinema Day is also an invitation to those moviegoers who haven't made it back to a cinema near them. India has a thriving domestic film industry and has seen one of the sharpest recoveries in the film exhibition business, globally. Quarter 1, FV'23 recorded impressive numbers among cinema operators on the back of global and local tent poles that resonated with the Indian audience. The quarter was marked by the release of some of the biggest domestic hits like KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Vikram, Bhool Bhulaiya 2, and Hollywood hits such as Doctor Strange and Top Gun: Maverick. The one-day-only discount is reported to be available at more than 4,000 participating theatres. The association also added that theatres participating in the '₹75 ticket' scheme will provide details on their respective social media handles. Customers should note, though, that while the tickets themselves will cost only ₹75, booking apps may levy additional charges.

Meanwhile, a similar offer is reported to be given in the United States for moviegoers, where movie tickets will cost just $3 - a sharp decline from the average $9 cost.
