'Kudos to Mani Ratnam sir': Sivakarthikeyan heaps praise on PS-1

CHENNAI: Actor Sivakarthikeyan, whose upcoming bilingual film 'Prince' is all set to release in theatres on Deepavali, poured in his praise for Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan-1' released on September 30th and said that he was spellbound during Nandini's scene with AR Rahman's music.

He took to his Twitter and tweeted, "#PonniyinSelvan1 💪💪. Massive respect to The Great Kalki 🙏. Kudos to #ManiRatnam sir, all the technicians & actors for giving a scintillating experience👍❤️🙏 The scene where #Nandhini imagines herself on the throne was magical..spellbound in @arrahman sir’s music." (sic)

'Ponniyin Selvan-1' is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel and chronicles the story of the early days of Arunmozhi Varman, a powerful king of the south who went on to become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I.

The film released on September 30th worldwide has been receiving positive responses from critics as well as audiences and has raked in a gross amount of Rs 200 crore worldwide in three days upon its release. The historical drama features an ensemble cast that includes Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobitha Dhulipala, Jayaram, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, Jayachitra, Rahman, Kishore, Riyaz Khan, Arjun Chidambaram, Mohan Raman and Nasser.

Music maestro AR Rahman has composed music for the film with cinematography by Ravi Varman. Backed by Mani Ratnam's own production house Madras Talkies and Allirajah Subaskaran's banner Lyca Productions, the film was released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam and its second part is set to be released in 2023.
