That 1 min convo made my day: ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ after Rajini’s call

CHENNAI: Actor Jayam Ravi who is playing the role of Arunmozhi Varman aka Ponniyin Selvan in Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan-1' received a call from 'Superstar' Rajinikanth after watching the film.

Announcing the same, the actor took to his Twitter and wrote, "That 1-minute conversation made my day, my year and added a whole new meaning to my career. Thank you Thalaiva for your kind words & childlike enthusiasm. I’m overwhelmed, humbled & blessed to know you loved the movie & my performance 🙏🏼 @rajinikanth sir." (sic)

Arunmozhi Varman is one of the key characters of 'Ponniyin Selvan', the film series which is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel.

Earlier, actor Sivakarthikeyan poured his praise on the film and said that he was spellbound during Nandini's scene with AR Rahman's music.

The film has been receiving positive responses from critics and the audience as well.

'PS-1' features an ensemble cast that includes Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobitha Dhulipala, Jayaram, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, Jayachitra, Rahman, Kishore, Riyaz Khan, Arjun Chidambaram, Mohan Raman, and Nasser.

Music maestro AR Rahman has composed music for the film with cinematography by Ravi Varman. Backed by Mani Ratnam's own production house Madras Talkies and Allirajah Subaskaran's banner Lyca Productions, the film was released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam and its second part is set to be released in 2023.
