Chennai

I am from Pammur in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district and came to Tamil Nadu six years ago. Now I am settled here. I’m married and have three daughters who are studying in the Anakaputhur government school. To make ends meet, I work as a housemaid. My day begins early in the morning and work all day in two different houses before returning home late in the evening. My husband does not have a regular job and stays home for at least three days a week while I have to toil it out. It was difficult to convince people to give me a job when I came to Chennai. They were apprehensive to employ me as I am from a different state.

Things have improved now. At present, I am working in a few houses. I have also worked at Anakaputhur municipality as temporary labourer. I used to collect garbage from households. But the job was tedious and I did not have time to even eat lunch. Therefore, I quit the job. My eldest daughter, who is currently studying in Class 9, wants to be a doctor. I put up with all my troubles and still manage to save a small portion of my income to fulfil her dream someday. But I am not sure if I will ever save enough. I am ready to go work in a factory or company. But most of the organisations wants a guarantor to sign the papers and I don’t have anyone to do that. I want to educate my daughters well and my problems will end after that. I hope to find a better job soon.
