A high-profile housing complex in Virugambakkam witnessed an unusual street-level verbal fight and exchange of abuses on Sunday night.
It was all about a retired DGP trying to make his tenant, a film producer, vacate his apartment. The commotion between the two sides was caught on camera by those present there and was shared on social media to highlight how the posh Tamil Nadu All India Service Housing Association (TAISHA) neighbourhood turned into a fighting ring between the landlord and the tenant. Things reached a peak and the police were called in.
Sources close to the retired DGP claimed that the film producer had taken the apartment for rent for last year and he was supposed to vacate it in February this year. But, because he refused to vacate it as promised, tension started to build between the two sides. The landlord was also not too happy with the kind of guests his tenant was bringing to the apartment and insisted that he moved out as soon as possible.
The tension, however, turned into a confrontation on Sunday night with the film producer and the retired DGP hurling abuses, shocking their neighbours, most of who belong to IAS and IPS category. “There was an issue. It was sorted out. The key was handed over to the landlord on the same night. No complaint was filed,” said sources from the police.
