What are the changes you have brought?
Sringeri Mutt Road was encroached by abandoned vehicles. With the help of traffic police and the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), we removed the encroachments from the road recently. We painted the road with artworks, and this has been preventing anti-social elements from misusing the road. We have demarcated the pedestrian pavement, too.
How did the civic body assist?
Even though the road has been refurbished under the initiative of ‘tactical urbanism’ by the traffic police, the Chennai Corporation had helped us in removing the abandoned vehicles. Corporation school students also helped to create artworks.
What is the present status of the road?
After the initiative, the road is maintained in good shape as we have prevented parking of abandoned vehicles. Our initiative has the potential to grow into a public awareness movement, extending the radius of such awareness.
