Though the government organisation maintains a record of all pledged donors and number of organ donations done so far on their website, private organisations also keep a track of the statistics such as total number of organs harvested from cadaver donations and live donors.
After sourcing the statistics on the number of organ donors and cadaver donations through the website, the reporter enquired on the trends related to organ donation in Tamil Nadu with an official associated with TRANSTAN.
But, it was shocking to see that the official did not agree with the figures that were mentioned on the website of the organisation. The official further said that the private organisations do not maintain proper records, despite the organ donation registry being run as a public private partnership.
To add to the confusion, the official said that the number of cadaver donations and number of organ donors remain the same, irrespective of the live organ donations. When the reporter stated that even live donations must have been registered, the official said that the organisation fails to maintain a proper record of all the figures.
