M Akash, (19), College student and eatery staff

S oon after I was born, my family shifted from Kancheepuram to Perungalathur. My father Muralidaran is a carpenter. My mother died while it was in Class 11. I scored 85 per cent in SSLC. But after seeing how my father is struggling to make the ends meet, I decided to get a job so as to support him. After completing my Class 12, I joined to work as a part-timer at an eatery shop. Meanwhile, I also joined for B Com at a private college in Mudichur. After returning home from college, I would go to the eatery at 4 pm and work till 11 pm.

On Saturdays, I used to go and do woodwork along with my uncle. I have two brothers, one a college student and the other studying in school. Using the money that I am earning, I am able to support my brothers in their studies and thus help my father by taking off some burden from his shoulders. From the money that I get for the carpentry work on Saturdays, I meet the expense for travel and other expenses for the week. I dream to be a government employee, for which I am preparing hard. During my free time, I keep myself updated reading books, which would help me to clear the government exams. Hopefully, I would clear the exam and become a government official one day, and will keep my father and my brothers happy forever.
