I used to live in Perambur before marriage. I have studied till Class 12. After I moved to Tambaram with my husband, I started to take care of the family business with him. Our shop is more than 75 years old. We had two children. But our daughter passed away in her youth after a prolonged illness and our son is married and works at an IT company.
After my husband passed away in 2002, the responsibility of the shop and also the family fell on me. I came up in life with great difficulty. We sell fresh homemade butter, ghee, pickles and applam. I open the shop at 9 am and close it at 9 pm every day. There are no holidays. On Saturdays and Sundays,my son also helps me look after the shop. We have some regular customers. Some of them have been buying products from us for four generations now. As all our products are homemade, they love it. Our butter, especially, has a fan base.
I would like to develop the business and also for my son to take over after me. Our family has been doing this for generations and I want my son to carry on the legacy. The public should pick homemade products for a healthy life.
