When social media was busy discussing the dismissal of Chidambaram senior’s plea challenging the anticipatory bail application on Monday, his son was flaunting his enviable connections in the world of tennis.
Barely an hour after the Supreme Court dismissed his father’s plea, Karti had tweeted a picture with yesteryear tennis sensation Gabriela Sabatini. Of course, not without taking a jab at the Enforcement Directorate, which has been at his heels of late. Karti captioned the photo: “My Argentinian connection” and tagged @sabatinigabyok in the tweet. A couple of hours later, he tweeted, “For all those wondering why I posted this, it’s in response to the affidavit of the @dir_ed, which was leaked last night, which claims I have properties in Argentina.”
Chidambaram junior has also retweeted a post by senior Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Singhvi — one among the battery of lawyers engaged by the former finance minister -- on the impressive spell of Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the second innings of the first Test versus West Indies on Sunday. In fact, the matching winning knock of English battling ace Ben Stokes in the third Ashes Test versus Australia did not fail to offer relief to even Karti, who on Sunday would have been weighing the possibility of getting a favourable bail order for his father in the SC. But, the MP did not invest all his time in tweeting sports developments. A good number of his tweets since last week pertained to his father’s arrest and arguments advanced by lawyers in the INX Media case and his disappointment over inadequate political outrage in the country over Kashmir.
