Slice Of Life: ‘Money from biryani biz is just enough’

I have been running a small biryani shop along with my younger brother for the past nine months near Nungambakkam railway station. Before the biryani shop, I was working as an assistant at a travel agency in Koyambedu. We started this business since we could not earn enough from our earlier jobs and we wanted to survive and grow on our own. Even though I know how to prepare biryani and other items, my brother cooks most of the time and I serve the customers. We share our workload. Usually, we start cooking at 7 am every day and start selling at 12.30 pm. We sell biryani at night also. I got married in 2002 and divorced in 2007. I do not have children and I do not want to get married again. My brother and I stay at the same building where we sell biryani. As space is cramped, we are searching for a suitable place to shift our shop. But we could not find such a shop. As of now, we earn just enough to pay the rent and buy ingredients to cook. So, we cannot employ another person. We are trying to develop our business and after that, we will employ more people.
