Reporter’s Diary: OPS supporters expected a bang, got a whimper
For the past 10 days, supporters of AIADMK convenor and deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam have been disappointed as their leader is not given any prominence in the state administration in the absence of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who is on his maiden visit to woo investors in UK and US.

Supporters of OPS including former Ministers and MPs who sided with him during the Dharmayutham days, when he split away from the party in 2017, are upset with the turn of events. Supporters hoped that during the absence of Palaniswami, OPS will gain political significance and conduct whirlwind inspections across the state instil fresh energy into the team, but OPS has confined himself to the regional politics of Theni and Madurai.
“OPS is personally upset with the current developments and he has been maintaining a stoic silence as there are many vacant party posts but his supporters are not in the run.
The leader’s political ambit is now confined to a few local heavy weights in southern Tamil Nadu and his son,” fumed a supporter. The AIADMK convenor has not taken any important political decisions in the party while rivals including AMMK were making steadfast changes in theirs.
The discontent among OPS supporters continues to be visible as former MP Maithreyan, an ardent supporter, last week expressed his dissatisfaction during an interview to a Tamil news channel.
Sensing the current situation, mischief mongers have also jumped into action by renewing rumours that OPS is inching close to the BJP headquarters. Now, only time and OPS himself can prove if its true.
