B Mariyaselvam (28), Car driver
I was born and brought up in Chennai. I have studied only up to Class 9. I had to give up education after that due to my family’s financial situation. My father is a car driver and I used to watch him do his job since my childhood. Maybe that is what attracted me to this job. After dropping out of school, I worked at a two-wheeler service shop for two years. Later I took a driving licence and began my carrier as a driver. I don’t like to drive for cab aggregators. I work for a private company in Chennai. After working hours, I have some regular customers and I would pick up and drop them. I work over weekends, too. I have been working in this field for seven years and I love it. Customer satisfaction is the most important part of this job and I treat my customers well. I would never get angry or think about anything else behind the wheels. I don’t use a mobile phone while driving. If anything important, I would park the vehicle and attend the phone call. I am working hard for a good life for my parents. My aim in life is to buy land and construct a house. Hopefully, I would achieve that soon.
