Reporter’s diary: Millennials on a roll after FM’s Uber, Ola connect for slowdown

Stumped by this rather strange explanation from the Union Minister, the netizens across India (and particularly those in the city known as the Detroit of the south) came up with different versions of it.
One of them that went viral played on the tagline used by leading innerwear firm, Jockey – Jockey or nothing – linking it with the recent report about innerwear sales also dipping in the recent months. The meme with Nirmala’s photograph commented: “Innerwear sales are down because Jockey or nothing and millennials chose nothing”. Many also wondered whether the sales of trucks, buses and tractors came down due to Ola and Uber. Another user tweeted, “Nirmala will say unemployment is rising bcos people dont want jobs!” (sic)
That was not all. There were lengthier posts as well stating that FMCG slowdown was due to millennials eating fast food, textile sector slowdown due to people wearing shorter dresses and State-run insurer LIC struggling because millennials were dead from inside. The one that took the cake was a Twitter user explaining that the fall in GDP could be due to gravity.
