Slice of Life: ‘Unemployed youth should utilise talents to start business’

I was born and brought up in Kancheepuram. After completing BCom, I tried to secure a job in many companies but in vain. Even if I found a job, the salary was not enough. After a lot of confusion, I decided to help my father in his business. He is a flower decorator. Our shop is situated behind Kancheepuram bus stop and it was started by my grandfather 30 years ago. Now I have taken over the business. Apart from decorations, I make flower garlands and sell them every day. There is no holiday for our shop. Even if I get an order for garlands at midnight, I make sure to make and give it in a few minutes. We have many regular customers due to this. My business is mainly at wedding and engagement functions. I get many more orders after people see my perfect floral decorations. I buy flowers from Kancheepuram market and if the demand is higher, then procure flowers from Koyambedu flower market, too. There are many youngsters who struggle to find a job. My suggestion for them is to opt for start-ups or business utilising their talents. I am happy with my job and I will continue to do this. I believe my business would help me reach a good position in life.
