Reporter’s Diary: Wife steps in for busy Rajini, fans see a full-time deputy

An otherwise media-shy Latha, who often lets others do the talking, was unusually busy hogging the media limelight during the four-day unsuccessful rescue mission of two-year-old Sujith Wilson. Notwithstanding the speculation over Rajinikanth launching his political party, Latha who is also the chairperson of NGO Shree Dayaa Foundation, has been constantly interacting with the media on the rescue mission. Her date with news-hungry media did not go in vain in what was a hectic news week for a politically active State. Twitterati was quick to exploit her newfound affinity for media glare too. So much so that a few Twitterati have already begun to suspect her political interest, presumably, imminent role in her husband’s to be launched party. From commenting on children’s education and child safety, the actor’s wife expressed concern over borewell menace. A curious Latha even took great pains to call up Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam to enquire about Sujith’s health during the rescue operation. Latha had even joined a few experts in suggesting that enactment of stringent rules was essential to a crackdown on abandoned borewell menace, unmindful of the fact that such rules were already in place. The question on fans’ minds is whether Rajini Makkal Mandram is getting a full-time deputy!
