Slice of life: No time to spend with family as I have to travel a lot for work

I am a native of Chennai. I started working as a freelance photographer after completing college education as I wanted to financially support my family. I haven’t had any formal education in photography. So I need to improve when it comes to wedding and fashion photography.

It is a highly competitive field and being a beginner, it is not easy to get work. Nowadays, everyone is on social media and expect us to be very advanced while booking us. However, they don’t understand the hard work we do. Many people think photography is easy and demean the profession as well as young photographers like me. I get hardly any time to spend with my family as I have to travel a lot for work. It was not easy to convince my family to let me pursue photography as a profession. Even though we have to spend a lot of money to buy equipment, people expect us to work for less. I also suffer health issues such as back pain due to prolonged hours of work and lack of sleep. I want to keep learning so that I remain relevant. I am sure I can make my parents proud though I have chosen a different profession to their liking.
