Leakage of liquid sewage from potholes on Ambal Nagar Main Road has been one of the oldest problems in the area. Multiple potholes near the Main Road allows the sewage to stagnate there.

“Over the last two months, sewage pipe near a pothole by the traffic signal has been leaking and spewing the liquid all over the road. This not only irks motorists and pedestrians, but also the residents as the stench gets unbearable sometimes,” said N Karthikeyan, a tea shop owner in the area.

“After complaining for more than a month, that pothole was fixed. But there are other potholes also that need repairs but despite repeated requests, civic officials have not even come to check it,” he added.

Residents also complained that the main road is riddled with potholes after the roads were dug for civic works.

“The Guindy branch office of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board dug the main road for some cable works last month and did not repair the road. The potholes collected rainwater and liquid sewage when the area was inundated. The condition of the road worsens after rainfall,” said Ravi Kumar, a resident of Ambal Nagar.

Vijay R, staff of a restaurant on the main road said that the leaking sewage water from the main road also reaches the shop. “This becomes a problem for our customers as they hesitate to eat in a dirty place. We can take care of the hygiene and cleanliness of the restaurant but how do we take care of the sewage leaks?” he said.

When contacted, the zonal officials assured of immediate action.
