S Raman (18), Bakery staff
I have studied until Class 10 and could not continue due to family problems. After finishing Class 10, I started to work as a helper with a driver in Thiruvarur. Both my parents are farmers and since their income is not sufficient, I began to search for another job. With the help of a friend, I came to Chennai and started to work in a bakery in Perungalathur a few months ago. I like the work here and all my co-workers are very kind to me. They helped me learn how to work smartly. I work from the morning, till evening. I stay in a room along with a friend. Now, I am happy since I can help my family with my earnings. I send the entire salary to parents since I don’t have much expenses. My employer is very kind and loving. He offers me food and provides me with all the support I need. I work hard and I hope that I would be able to achieve my dreams in the next few years. Meanwhile, I would also like to study further and I am planning to apply for a course during weekends. I believe that one day I will make my parents proud.
