Reporter’s Diary: AIADMK working on four-tier strategy to win local body polls

Sources in the AIADMK claimed that a few senior Ministers were working on poll strategies that are tailor-made for each district. According to them, the leaders would first try to win the maximum number of posts through unopposed elections. If that’s not possible, they would spend a lot of time and resources for the campaign. Later, the poll observers and cadre from non-polling areas would be shifted to poll-bound areas for effective micro-level campaign. The last strategy is to identify the winning candidates vulnerable to poaching. “DMK leader MK Stalin is taking the AIADMK leadership for granted. But we are here to expose the weak leadership of DMK. Remember that the AIADMK wrested Vikravandi and Nanguneri from the opposition through public outreach and lavish campaigns,” an AIADMK leader said.

In the first phase, a majority of the 18,000 posts were filled by unopposed candidates. A lot of independent and AMMK candidates with winning prospects are on the radar.

Ahead of the indirect elections to local body posts on January 12, the party will execute the four-tier strategy programme, sources said.
