Once upon a time, Kodambakkam was known as a cinema hub. So many fashion trends emerged there. I feel lucky that my shop is located here.

When I started, the shop was only big enough for me to stand and keep a few articles of clothing. Now, it has developed to a proper store. It took a lot of hard work, but I am happy that I have reached where I am now.

I treat my customers like family. They are important for my business. I have customers who have been buying from me for years, and they know all about my family and personal life too. This customer came in the other day and we spoke more about his family problems than the fitting.

Clothes are personal — everyone wants to look their best and so I try and do a good job when I am given cloth to stitch. People want either the latest trends or go for styles that suit their body. It’s my job to help them look their best.

When customers are happy, I get business. This I learned at the very beginning. So for me, whenever someone asks me for business advice, I tell them only this. You’re not supposed to only run a shop, you have to make it feel like a

home too.
