Chennai

I married my husband six years ago in Bengaluru. We came to Chennai two years ago. When he’s at work, I come by and take care of the shop. The children come with me, too.

Chennai is a different city. In Bengaluru, things are rushed and always busy. Here nobody is in a rush. Everyone here is patient and kind. I like that a lot about this city.

Our eldest is five and the youngest is three. Our son goes to school and he enjoys it very much. He likes to study, and he has made some friends as well. He comes back from school with a lot of stories to share.

They come here and sit with me while I work. I like that rather than leaving them alone at home. They have fun here and play on the sidewalk while I attend to the wares. But they’re naughty.

My mother used to say I would understand her predicament only once I became a mother. Now, I know what she meant. I worry about them a lot. I want them to have a happy and healthy life.

The younger one will soon start school. He is a little quiet compared to his brother, but I know he will be okay. My older one really dotes on his younger brother -- always protecting him and making sure he’s okay. So I’m not worried.
