The people who travel through Kadappa Road near the cemetery at Kolathur complained that they are finding it difficult to use the stretch due to its bad condition, and blamed the officials for not taking any steps to repair the road for more than three years.

“This road has remained damaged for more than three years, and makes it difficult for the commuters and residents to use this road. During rains, the situation gets even worse, as the rainwater stagnates and causes traffic jams during peak hours. It also forces the people to wade through the water. There were also accidents on this road. However, despite all this, the civic authorities have not taken any steps,” said Mohan B, a resident of Kadappa Road.

Such is the condition of the road that there have been times when even ambulances found it difficult to take the road to reach hospitals nearby, claimed residents. Though commuters and residents have filed numerous complaints in this regard, the officials have not taken any action, alleged the people.

“We have seen many vehicles skidding on this road. We are tired of giving complaints because they have not bothered to visit the place. The matter was taken up with the local police station, too, mentioning the accidents. But I don’t think even they are taking it to the senior officers,” said Vishnu Kumar P, another resident of Kadappa Road. Despite all these troubles that they are facing every day, they have no option but to use the road in the absence of any alternative, rued the people here.

The residents are angry at the civic officials, pointing out how they have been complaining repeatedly to the authorities for almost three years. “Earlier, they use to re-lay the road every year or at least during the election time. But for the past three years, they have not taken any action. The Corporation officials should consider either re-laying the road or at least fill up the potholes. Many a time, we have complained to the local politicians and other authorities, but all in vain,” added Vishnu.

When contacted, a senior official at the zonal Corporation office said that they would ensure that road re-laying would be carried out soon.
