“Friends, I have often referred to the spirit of service on part of our doctors, nursing staff, sanitation workers, police personnel and media persons. I have touched upon this in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ too.

“There are innumerable people who are willing to give everything in the service of others. One such gentleman is KC Mohan of Tamil Nadu. Mohan ji, who runs a salon in Madurai, through sheer hard work, had saved Rs 5 lakh for his daughter’s education. To help the needy and the underprivileged during this difficult time, he spent the entire amount,” Modi said.

The 46-year-old man relished the moment when his act of humanity was recognised by the Prime Minister. “It was around 11 am when I was working in the salon, the Prime Minister appreciated my help and wholeheartedly thanked me. I rushed to my house and conveyed this message to my family, who erupted in joy,” Mohan said. “Above all, it was a moment of pride for people of Madurai,” he added. A month ago, he offered essential commodities such as rice, dhal, oil and grocery items from his savings to the poor who were in distress during the lockdown.
