CM grants 20% Deepavali bonus to PSU workers

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced Deepavali bonus and ex-gratia payments to workers of various public sector undertakings

Chennai: In a statement, she said that the employees of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), transport, civil supplies and rubber corporations, cooperative and public sector sugar mills and milk federation would get 8.33 per cent bonus and 11.67 per cent ex-gratia, which works out to 20 per cent.Eligible workers in the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) will receive an additional 10 per cent ex-gratia.The employees in the cooperative societies that have made profits will be given bonus and ex-gratia up to 20 per cent, while those in the other societies will get 8.33 per cent bonus and 1.67 per cent ex-gratia.Jayalalithaa said that bonus would be given to C and D group employees of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, Water Board, the Chennai Drinking Water and Sewerage Board, Tamil Nadu Text Book and Education Corporation, Poompuhar Shipping Corporation and other sectors.

Contract employees in the TNEB would get Rs 2000 while those in the TNCSC and workers in cooperative societies not covered under the Bonus Act would be given Rs 1500.The C and D workers of the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation and Poompuhar and TN Cooperative Housing Society will be paid 8.33 per cent bonus and 11.67 per cent ex-gratia. Workers of the Tamil Nadu Zari Mills and the Tamil Nadu Transport Development Finance Corporation are also eligible for a 20 per cent bonus and ex-gratia.In all, the government will pay a bonus to the tune of a total amount of Rs 242.41 crore to 3,76,464 workers.The Chief Minister expressed the hope that the governmentís decision to provide bonus to PSU workers would enable them to celebrate Deepavali with fervour.
