Cuddalore

A team of top officials visited the rain-hit areas in Cuddalore district to review the power situation, drinking water facilities and other basic issues.

Electricity and water

It was decided during the inspection that generators would be used to provide electricity to 13 Panchayat unions, including Panruti, Kurinchipadi, Nallur, Mangalur and Bhuvanagiri and to 16 Town Panchayats, including Vadalur, Thorapadi, Pennadam, Thittakudi, Killai and Parangipettai, that are suffering without power supply due to the heavy rains. Steps to provide the affected people some relief are under way, with 1,000 workers having been deployed for the purpose. About 2,164 high-level water tanks are being used to supply drinking water to the people.

Power supply has been restored to 295 Panchayat unions out of the 683 and work on this is on in the remaining Panchayats. They would soon make arrangements to supply drinking water soon after these works came to a close, District Collector Dr C Suresh Kumar said.

Medical camps

The district administration set up about 35 medical camps as a preventive measure against rain-related ailments. Dr C Suresh Kumar said that vaccinations were carried out and medicines distributed which benefited over 1,000 people. The immunisation provided at these health camps is a vital step in preventing any epidemics and flus from breaking out, thereby preserving public health.
