The main reason for interior wall damage is the use of inferior quality of paint on the exterior of the house. So use a good quality paint. It is ideal to get the painting of your walls done much prior to the setting in of the monsoons. A coat of waterproof cement paint is highly recommended to protect walls from damage.

  • If you live in an area at risk of flooding, then have your sockets and fuse boxes raised by an electrician. This may prevent the need for expensive rewiring later.
  • For the interiors of your house, ensure that there is cross-ventilation in your home. This will keep humidity levels in check and get rid of that feeling of dampness.
  • Fungus-affected areas need separate treatment. Make a 5 to 10 percent solution of bleach powder in water and apply on the affected areas with a brush. Wash the walls with clean water after an interval of eight to ten hours. Allow the surface to dry sufficiently.
  • Have a plumber fit non-return valves to drains and pipes, as this will prevent dirty water being forced up, into your home.
