Hotels across the city saw a rise in corporate bookings with arrangements being made for employees to stay overnight when they could not return home due to the rain.. Hotels had an average booking rate of 40-60 rooms for three days.
Sampath Kumar of Savera Hotel says, “Since there are corporate officers close to our premises at RK Salai, companied had booked rooms with us for their employees.”
Most corporates also have a tie-up with hotels and they utilised this facility to ensure the safety of employees who were unable to go home. “We had close to 60 bookings during the three days of rain,” confirmed a representative of The Raintree, St. Mary’s Road.
Hotels close to the IT hub were particularly crowded. Santhosh, an employee of a start-up firm on OMR, said, “We were full by Sunday evening due to rain bookings, and we could not accommodate more people,” says a manager of a star hotel in Guindy.
Lemon Tree Hotels, with its proximity to the IT hub, also registered a rise in bookings. “These corporates are primarily based at Guindy Industrial Estate and the DLF IT zone. Both our hotels are running near full occupancy because of our previous scheduled bookings as well as this sudden inflow. More corporates are staying at Guindy than at Manapakkam,” says a representative.
