Public relieved at fall in vegetable prices
The opening of 50 more Farm Fresh outlets in the city, in order to contain the rising open market prices, has brought down the prices of essential vegetables like tomatoes, onions, beetroot, potatoes, brinjal, snake gourd and ladies’ finger.

Authorities have launched Farm Fresh outlets in various places including Thuraipakkam, Meenampakkam, Virugampakkam, East and West Tambaram, Villivakkam, and West Mambalam recently.
People thronged at these State-owned shops to buy vegetables at half the price of the open market rate in AK Samy Nagar, Ayanavaram, Abiramapuram and more. On the first day itself, 231/2 tons of vegetables were sold out.
Turning point
The opening of these outlets are being viewed as a turning point as it attracted large crowds and resulted in reduction of prices at Koyambedu market. Vegetables like chillies, tomatoes, green peas and beans had a price reduction of Rs 5 to 10/kg. Homemakers were thrilled at the reduced prices and thanked the CM for this initiative.
