The statement said that while Elangovan was working hard to rejuvenate the party after its defeat in the last Parliament elections, there were some members who were obstructing him from within the party.
Referring to Vijayadharani’s demand for action against some persons in the party, the statement said the usual practice was for the state Congress leader to say that he would inquire into the matter and then act. But Vijayadharani’s behaviour in demanding immediate action was condemna¬ble, the statement added.
Mahila Congress members, Shanthi Srini and Manasa Fathima, complaining to the police with fabri-cated facts, which was an act of betrayal, it said.
The statement further demanded that the party president, Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi initiate severe action against those who had brought disrepute to the party, by approaching the police in a matter which should have been settled inhouse. The statement said they were demanding removal of Vijayadharani from her post and the party’s primary membership for her ill-founded complaint that Elangovan had passed remarks about women.
