Extending its support to any initiative of the territorial administration towards rain relief, the DMK (South) here on Tuesday urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to visit New Delhi and meet Prime Minister and others ministers to explain the devastation caused by the rains in Puducherry and Karaikal regions for getting more central funds.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at a consultation meeting of the DMK (South) which met to discuss the provision of rain relief to the affected, DMK (South) convenor R Siva said in an official statement here.Another resolution urged the administration to provide relief immediately by recalling that the Chief Minister had announced it four days ago and it was yet to be implemented. It also noted that several announcements of the government had gone unfulfilled in the past.
Welcoming the provision of Rs4000 to all ration card holders towards rain relief, the meeting urged the administration to enhance the quantum of assistance to the rural people whose houses were damaged and who suffered more when compared to urban people. The resolutions adopted in the meeting included urging the administration to provide utensils to the people besides compensation for those who lost fridge and washing machines, provision of certificates and books to students among others.
