Members of Raindropss, a social organisation, has been working continuously in relief operations. Aravind Jayabal, founder of Raindrops talks about the experience.
What are the challenges you faced during relief work?
Our volunteers were out on the field even during the first bout of rains. We have been working 10 days without a break covering various parts of the city. We had more than 1,000 volunteers helping us. Our female volunteers have been working in areas of complete power shut down and we worried for their safety.
How do you plan to help in rehabilitation work?
People told us that their means of livelihood was lost. Our next step was to help those affected get back on their feet. We intend to provide them with business opportunities. We are working out a plan where the flood-affected people can earn money by working for organisations involved in rehabilitation work.
How do you plan to bring the entertainment industry together to raise funds?
Every year we launch our annual calendar. This year we plan to celebrate young heroes who spent sleepless nights volunteering. We had planned to launch it next week, but that might get postponed. That apart, we plan to organise a concert in future for charity.
