Puducherry streets being lit up with LED bulbs

The Renewable Energy Agency Puducherry (REAP) along with the State Electricity Department replaced 60 high-power consuming Sodium Vapour lamps (SVL)/Fluorescent Lamps (FTL) with energy-efficient LED bulbs at Irulanchandai village here on Saturday

Power Minister T. Thyagarajan, who switched on the lights said that this was the first phase of the scheme.

According to an official release, in the second phase, 106 SVLs and FTLs will be replaced with LED street lights. As many as 1,850 LED holder-type bulbs will be distributed among households in Irulanchandai, Kuruvinatthampet, Bahoorpet and Pudunagar village.

The cost of the project is Rs 15,98,429 and the approximate energy usage before implementation of project is 987 kwh per day. 

The estimated energy usage after implementation of the project is 117 kwh per day. Energy Savings achieved is 870 kwh per day, which is almost 88 per cent.
