DMK wants proper census of flood-hit families

Opposition DMK on Sunday demanded that Puducherry governmenttake up proper enumeration of families hit by heavy rains early this month sothat relief as per quantum of damages could be finalised and disbursed.

 A resolution adoptedat a meeting of office bearers of the south wing of DMK, held under thechairmanship of the convenor and former legislator R Siva said the rains hadcaused extensive damage to infrastructure.

Drinking water to residents in areas like Nellithope wasalso unhygienic with slush and sediments of the drainage getting mixed withdrinking water, it said. The resolution wanted government to look into this andensure that clean water was available in most rain hit areas.

The Corporation for welfare of Minorities should also ensurethat financial aid of Rs 25,000 was available to eligible persons, it said.People living in low lying areas should be provided tenements and theauthorities concerned should take steps to ensure accommodation for thehomeless, it added.
