Social activist Traffic Ramaswamy in a public interest litigation submitted that the 10-storey Miot International Hospital has been constructed in total violation of the approved building plan.  He alleged that besides the building being situated in a low lying area, the water channels were encroached upon by the construction of a parking lot. Ramaswamy further submitted that the rains last November and first week of December revealed the encroachment with water breaking its banks and tearing down the compound wall. This had resulted in all power units and generators being damaged causing the death of 18 patients. He also averred in his plea that as many as 75 people had died owing to this, but the hospital had suppressed facts and had admitted only 18 deaths. Claiming that the death was due to the wilful negligence of the hospital authorities, he sought criminal action against the hospital and corrupt officials.
