Schools to seek 30 percent hike in fee

Private schools have decided to seek a 30 pc hike in the new fee structure as the previous one fixed by the Justice S R Singaravelu fee determination committee is set to expire with this academic year

Insisting the need for a hike, K R Nandakumar, secretary, TN Nursery, Primary, Matriculation, Higher Secondary Schools’ Association, said that even as the HC allowed a fee hike of 15 per cent it would not be adequate for over 5,000 ‘small’ and ‘medium’ institutions as recurring cost, including teachers’ salary had gone up considerably in the last three years.

 “We urge the panel to fix Rs. 15,000 as fee for up to class V, Rs. 20,000 till class X and Rs. 40,000 for classes XI and XII,” he said. According to sources as the 3-year period for the fee system comes to an end this academic year, the panel would send letters to all schools by January to submit their accounts.
