Song upset people, Simbu must apologise: Vishal

Rebutting the claims that the South Indian Artistes’ Association (SIAA) did not make any effort to resolve the Simbus’s ‘Beep Song’ controversy, actor and SIAA general secretary Vishal said he spoke to Simbu and told him there was nothing wrong in apologising if the song had hurt sentiments of people

“I told Simbu that this was not the time to debate whether the song was leaked or not, as the issue had gone to the court. If it has hurt sentiments of many people, there was nothing wrong in tendering an apology. I did not speak to him as SIAA general secretary, but as a fellow actor and one who wanted to help him. We want to resolve the issue,” Vishal said addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the SIAA’s executive committee meeting here on Saturday.

Notice to Radhikaa

Taking on actress Radhikaa for her comments about the SIAA, the general secretary said that the executive committee has decided to send a show cause notice to Radhikaa for levelling cheating charges against the Association.

The SIAA general secretary said the comment was not in good taste and she should explain the reasons for her statement. “SIAA will not cheat anybody and it is wrong to say that we have not intervened in the Simbu issue. We spoke to Simbu and we are here again trying to do our best. Even now we are ready to help him.

The person involved in the row has to take a stand, we cannot act on his behalf; we can only mediate, we can only help and advise, but the ball is in his court,” he added.

Nasser in touch with family

Elaborating on the issue, SIAA president Nasser said that the association was in constant touch with Simbu’s family holding discussions of how to resolve the issue.

“When we advised Simbu to apologise as the song has hurt sentiments of several people, his family said they will face the issue legally and thanked us for our concern,” Nasser said.
