Corporation speeds up source reduction

As the recent rain led to water stagnation in many places, the corporation intensified source reduction processes like cleaning areas, removing unnecessary trash and examining residential water tanks

Corporation officials said that there was fear that stagnation would create contagious and water-borne infections like diarrhoea and dengue. But, the health staff were pressed into intensive source reduction preventing disease outbreak. Dr N.A Senthil Nathan, City Health Officer (i/c) said around 3,000 corporation health workers and 1,000 from other districts were still involved in source reduction. State Health Secretary, Dr J Radhakrishnan said, “During rains, around 5,000 health workers were engaged in  draining water and source reduction. The vigilance on mosquito breeding has been increased as well.”
