Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa honours fencing champion Bhavani Devi

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa granted a cheque of Rs 2 lakh to Bhavani Devi, who won a bronze medal at the 18th Flemish Open Fencing Championship.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa grants a cheque of Rs 2 lakh to Bhavani Dev

CA Bhavani Devi, a bronze medallist in 18th Flemish Open Fencing Championship, was handed over with a cheque of Rs. 2 lakhs as incentive by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on December 28, 2015 at the Secretariat here.

Tamil Nadu government is taking measures to encourage talented players across various games and sports by establishing world class infrastructure, providing ample training,

funds and incentives to deserving sportspersons. 

In the view of helping young talent, CA Bhavani Devi, a fencing player from Old Washermenpet, was given a cheque of Rs. 2 lakh as incentive by Jayalalithaa. Bhavani won a Bronze medal at the 18th Flemish Open Fencing Championship.

It may be recalled that the CM had already sponsored Rs. 3 lakh financial assistance to Bhavani Devi in 2015 October for her participation in fencing competition held at

Venezuela and France. 

The player has won many medals in Junior Level Fencing competitions in Commonwealth Games, bronze medal in Mongolia Fencing Championship 2015 and silver medal in Asian Fencing Championship tournament held in Philippines in 2014.

The CM had written to Bhavani in October 2015 congratulating her for winning Bronze at the competition in Belgium.
