What are the highlights of the food walks to be held this week?
Both walks are in Mylapore. But the trails are different. The first day, the walk begins in Mandaveli and ends at Mylapore, while on the second day it will begin at Mylapore post office and proceed towards the Kapaleeswarar temple. These stops will comprise food outlets that are inexpensive and well- known. They meet the lunch requirements of those running small businesses here and fit a budget of Rs 100. Some of them are several decades old and have been run by multiple generations of a family. Rayar Mess has a history of several decades and there are other places like Gomathi Mess, Senthil Softy Zone, etc. to name a few.
How do you identify food trails?
I have been living in Mylapore for the last 12 years and began noticing the unique food places just five years ago. The trick is in finding good food joints within a two-kilometre radius because people cannot walk long distances.
What is the age group of those who attend food walks?
There is no demarcation on the basis of age. I have young and old participating in equal measure. The older ones are often curious about what they have missed out on all these years. I have even had a mess owner join me on one of these food trails.
