Tell us about your journey in dance I have been in the field for over 20 years now.

I started training in dance at the age of four. After intense training in Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi and Bharathanatyam for several years, I have now decided to concentrate only on Mohiniattam.

What will you be performing at your next act?

I am going to begin the show with a devi stuti written by Maharaja Swati Tirunal. It will be followed by a traditional varnam called Devaki Vilapam . There is a popular Bharathanatyam piece which has been adopted in Mohiniattam, called Mahadeva Shiva Shambo, a piece on the story of King Bhagirath bringing River Ganga to the earth and Kuchelavritham. I will conclude the performance with a poem called Krishna Ni Enna Ariyilla, about the desires of a Gopika who has always bottled up her love and yearning for Lord Krishna.

What are your future projects?

I am concentrating on Mohiniattam as a performer. I have my own dance school called Lavanya, where I teach both Mohiniattam and Bharathanatyam.
