Storm water drains in extended city

With the objective of making rain water flow into proper channels, the Chennai city corporation will soon construct storm water drains in Chennai’s newly added areas of Ambattur, Valsaravakkam and Alandur.

According to a senior official in the state Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) department, the city corporation had chalked out plans for storm water drains in the newly included city limits of Ambattur, Valsaravakkam and Alandur, at a cost of  Rs. 4,000 crore. 

“Chennai city already has storm water drain in place and work for Ambattur, Valsaravakkam and Alandur will be taken up soon. Work in the remaining area will be undertaken in a phased manner under the Tamil Nadu Sustainable Urban Development Project,” the official said, adding that a detailed project report would be prepared for storm water drain projects in the extended areas of Thoothukudi and Salem also.
