Assembly Secretary AMP Jamaludeen in a press release issued here on Monday said that the Governor proposes to address the Legislative Assembly on January 20.
The Business Advisory Committee of the House will later determine the duration of the session. BAC normally meets on the first day of the session.
The session is likely to be a stormy one as the opposition may raise some thorny issues like confusion in rain relief, Chembarambakkam lake water release and may once again rake up the prohibition bogie.
Though detailed explanations had already been given by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and the Chief Secretary, some parties may seek a debate on the lake opening issue and encroachments on the banks of water bodies. The tenure of the present 14th Assembly expires in May this year.
