Official sources said on Thursday the Tamil Nadu DGP had already sent a circular to all district SPs, asking them to strictly implement the order and to book all those who try to violate it. Highly placed sources in the police department told DT Next that police personnel had been deployed in all sensitive areas and the movement of pro-jallikattu organisations was being keenly watched.

“We have sufficient number of forces deployed in the districts. Apart from state police, we also have sought personnel from specialist forces like Armed Reserve and Rapid Action Force,” a senior police official said. Instructions have been given to the forces to handle the situation with care and to arrest and remove those who try to violate the order.

He said as per available intelligence, no group is planning to violate the SC order. “If anyone tries to disturb the law and order that will be dealt with sternly. Police are committed to ensure what is legally allowed and prevent what is not allowed,” the official explained.

Meanwhile, sources in southern districts said tension prevailed in several areas like Alanganallur and Palamedu. Several messages, urging people to violate the ban and to conduct jallikattu, are spreading on WhatsApp.
