How does one prepare for the ride?
Since it’s going to be a 130+ Km one way ride to Vellore starting from Chennai, it should take around 9 hours for the last rider among the pack to reach Vellore. Preparation for the ride should include doing regular cycling every day — an average of 30 km, and one or two long distance rides covering 80-100 km in the weekends. Proper hydration a day before the event is essential.
What can participants expect in the ride?
Participants can expect their endurance levels being put to test, joy of being on a long distance ride as a group with fellow cyclists and most importantly, getting to know about Vellore’s unique contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
What are the heritage spots that will be covered?
The only heritage spot which we will be visiting during the ride is Fort Vellore located in the heart of Vellore city. The Fort was built in the 16th century by Sinna Bommi Nayak, a subordinate chief of the Vijayanagar Kings. It later came under the control of Bijapur Sultans, Marathas, Nawabs of Carnatic, Mughals and finally under the British. The Fort was the centre of action in what can be mentioned as the earliest revolt against the British that took place in July 1806, the Vellore Mutiny.
