Solar sector, a potential employment hub for India

The renewable energy industry could be termed as a 'sunrise' industry.

According to an industry report it has been predicted that jobs in the renewable energy industry would rise to more than three million over the next 20 years and lead to the opening up of a new range of career opportunities.

A press release from photovoltaic module maker Waaree Energies Limited here today said developing countries have great potential for renewable energy and among these solar power--one of the most cost-effective sources of tapping energy has the potential to create close to seven lakh jobs in the country in the next ten years.

While solar energy production has the potential to end the power woes of a country, the added advantage was that it also creates a plethora of new job opportunities.

According to the industry reports Solar energy could create up to 1,45,000 MW of capacity and 6.7 lakh jobs in India over next 10 years. For the unemployed youth, the solar sector would present huge careers and business opportunities.

The skills required depend on the function to be played in the organisation. The skill set required in solar sector tends to be slightly different from others.

"Therefore, there is a significant emphasis from the government on training and creating a pool of people for the job opportunities in the renewable and solar sector", the release added.
