Women outnumber men, as TN has 5.79 crore voters

An official release said of the total 5.79 crore voters, 2.88 crore were male and 2.91 crore female.

The third gender consists of 4,383 voters. There was a net addition of 12.33 lakh electors in the final rolls of the Special Summary revision-2016 with  reference to January one, 2016 as the qualifying date.

"SMS are being sent to around eight lakh applicants who had provided their mobile numbers at the time of applying. Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) for the new electors are being printed and will be delivered through the Booth Level Officers by February 10", the release said.

As special feature of this revision, all the first time electors would be given an information brochure 'Voter Guide' along with EPIC.
      
The 'Voter Guide' contains information regarding registration and voting processes in an easily understandable manner.  
   
Also, as per the final rolls, the Shozinganallur Assembly Constituency in Kancheepuram district has the highest number of 5,75,773 electors.

This included: 2,91.909 male voters; 2,83,819 (female voters) and 45 (Third Gender).

This Assembly Constituency also has the highest electors in the age group of 18-19 with 12,797 electors. (Male-7214; Female-5583).

On the other hand,  the reserved constituency of Kilvelur (SC) in Nagapattinam district has the lowest number of electors with 1,63,189 voters (Male-81,038, Female 82,151).

The total numbers of voters across 16 Assembly constituencies in Chennai stood at 39,47,016, recording an increase of 3.09 percentage from the draft roll list released on September 15 last year.

The total number of male voters stood at 19,62,414 as against 19,83,766 female voters.

A total of 836 voters are in the 'others' category.

The final figures have been attained after deletion of 2,538 and inclusion of 1,20,781 voters.

Total number of young voters who have completed 18 years were 32,208.

Velacherry constituency in the city has the maximum number of voters with 2,96,239 voters.

The Thirumangalam Assembly Constituency in Madurai district has the highest number of service electors--2402.

The release said 47 overseas electors have also been enrolled in the voters list.
 
The special summary revision of electoral rolls commenced with draft publication on September 15 last year and claims and objections were received from September 15 to October 24, 2015.

During the above revision period, 16,18,526 voters of the total 17,10,000 applicants were included and 3,85,293 voters were deleted on account of shifting, death and duplicate entries.

The release said 2,67,400 people have applied for corrections and 2,56,888 were accepted.
